SERIES: JAMAICA COLOURS – BELONGING

A part of the creative process is knowing when you are done with it. Sometimes, being done means you no longer want to have the canvas around – no more scraping off and painting over, no more trying to fix a detail, no more wondering what to do with the recalcitrant piece, or just simply the feeling that this relationship is over! That’s when a canvas can be thrown away. And I retrieve those canvases whenever I discover them and make them my own. They get washed and wrung and crushed and put under stones and left to acquire new energy.

This series was created entirely from such canvases. The raw edges show that they’ve been through it all and come back.
